Reclaiming my creativity - photographing the countryside in February

Every so often I feel disconnected from my creative side, usually after a long winter when I haven’t been able to get outdoors with my camera enough, or the grey days have seeped into my soul a little too deeply. To remind myself of the beauty that still exists whatever the season, I try to spend a few hours a week just wandering with my cameras, looking for those small moments to capture. Flowers, landscapes, animals, birds, architecture - whatever crosses my path.

This week I dug out my National Trust card and ventured to Newark Park just down the road from me for the first time this year. It’s a beautiful place whatever the month, but the snowdrops in February are glorious, and followed swiftly by the carpets of daffodils.

If you feel the need to rewild your soul a little then do make that time in your diary to just be out doing what you love - whether it’s camera in hand like me, simply soaking in the outdoors, feeling the grass under your feet, going for a wild swim, sketching, painting. Just being in the moment without your phone notifications, away from screens and the hustle of daily life. Remembering what you do it all for.
